SPARK PLUG INSTALLATION:

WHENEVER POSSIBLE IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU TIGHTEN THE SPARK PLUG WITH A TORQUE WRENCH. IF A TORQUE WRENCH IS NOT AVAILABLE OR NOT ABLE TO BE USED BECAUSE OF SPACE CONSTRAINTS, THEN THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED:

A.) THE THREADED AREA OF THE CYLINDER HEAD MUST BE CLEAN.

B.) COAT THE SPARK PLUG THREADS WITH AN ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND.

C.) USING YOUR FINGERS, SCREW THE SPARK PLUG INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD FINGER TIGHT AND THEN TIGHTEN ABOUT 1/ 4 TO 1/ 2 A TURN MORE WITH PLUG WRENCH, ABOUT 1/6 OF A TURN ON TAPERED SETS.

D.) OVER TIGHTENING CAN DISTORT THE SPARK PLUG SHELL OR CRACK THE PORCELAIN CAUSING THE PLUG TO MISFIRE.

SPARK PLUG TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS:

IF A TORQUE WRENCH IS AVAILABLE, TIGHTEN TO THE BELOW LISTED SPECS. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, PARTICULARLY WITH ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEADS .

SPARK PLUG GAP :

AN EASY WAY TO FIND THE PROPER SPARK PLUG GAP FOR YOUR PARTICULAR ENGINE IS AS FOLLOWS:

1.) LOOK IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL UNDER "ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS".

2.) MOST AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS LIST ON AN UNDER HOOD DECAL PERTINENT INFORMATION SUCH AS: FIRING ORDER, PLUG GAP, IDLE RPM, TIMING SPECS, AND AN ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT SCHEMATIC. LOCATE THIS DECAL BEFORE YOU START INSTALLATION OF THIS KIT, AND MAKE NOTES THAT ARE APPLICABLE.

3.) IF NO UNDER HOOD DECAL CAN BE FOUND OR IS NOT AVAILABLE, ASK THE COUNTERMAN AT THE PARTS STORE WHERE YOU PURCHASED THIS TUNE-UP KIT TO LOOK UP THE PLUG GAP FOR YOU.  
DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE PLUG GAP IS PRE-SET BY THE SPARK PLUG MANUFACTURER!
